Chapter 3 – HOW TO UNDERSTAND INDONESIAN CLASSES

OBSERVATION DAY 3
A new day has come.
We were again introduced to Mr. Agus’ grade 9 class. We’ve never been to one of his classes before and so there goes another getting to know each other stage. Lots of photo ops and selfies happened. And I’ve noticed that their uniforms are cute!

At 10:00 am, I was at Mr. Dede’s PE Class. He is also a PE teacher. Unfortunately, he can’t speak English therefore; I need to adjust with the situation. I need to recall the bahasa Indonesian words I’ve researched.
As I was taking down notes about how his classroom routine and management works, I tried to stop writing for a moment and I can’t believe that I was able to understand his topic though he was speaking his native language. It was all in his body language and gestures. He was trying to recap their previous lesson and demonstrated the dribbling, types of passing and blocking. Thank God for movements i was able to understand their topic about basketball.

After their discussion, they went to the quadrangle and had a warm up and then each of the students demonstrated the proper way of dribbling in basketball.

For LUNCH we tried their Sundanese specialty called SEBLAK. It is a spicy soup mixed with chicken, meatballs, pasta, noodles or anything you want. This boy named Suriah from Mr. Agus’ class was the one who brought and introduced us the Seblak. He speaks English well that’s why he isn’t afraid of communicating with us. He told us that he just learned English just by internet gaming. It was an international game he was addicted to and was able to learn english from his playmates from other countries through online.

After Seblak food tasting, we went to fetch Ivy to Luginasari Elementary school, where she was assigned. We asked Pa Ujang if he could take us to PARIS VAN JAVA. It’s a mall and inside is like a street in Paris, France which has a lot of designer stores and imported ones.
But well, since he is a good man… REQUEST GRANTED!

TERIMAH KASIH/HATUR NUHUN, PA UJANG!
